RUDIMENT #18 OF 40 · DIDDLE RUDIMENTS

Triple Paradiddle

The triple paradiddle is six singles and a double: R L R L R L R R. Eight notes to a group, it fits neatly into two beats of 16th notes.

Sticking

R L R L R L R R L R L R L L

Capital letters are main notes. Small letters are grace notes played just before the main note.

How to practice it

  1. Say the sticking out loud as you play it.
  2. Accent the first note of each group and keep the rest soft.
  3. Once it is even, try it on hi-hat and snare, or around the toms.
  4. Accent the first note of each group, then keep the rest even. The double at the end should not stand out.

Where you will use it

It works well as a two-beat fill and as a way to move the leading hand in long 16th-note passages.
