RUDIMENT #19 OF 40 · DIDDLE RUDIMENTS

Single Paradiddle-Diddle

The paradiddle-diddle is two singles and two doubles: R L R R L L. It does not alternate, so the right hand always leads, which makes it fast and very smooth.

Sticking

R L R R L L

Capital letters are main notes. Small letters are grace notes played just before the main note.

How to practice it

  1. Say the sticking out loud as you play it.
  2. Accent the first note of each group and keep the rest soft.
  3. Once it is even, try it on hi-hat and snare, or around the toms.
  4. Accent the first note. The two doubles should sound like smooth sixteenths, not like flams.

Where you will use it

Split between hands and feet or moved around the toms, it is a favorite fill pattern in rock and fusion.
