RUDIMENT #23 OF 40 · FLAM RUDIMENTS

Flamacue

The flamacue is a flam, three singles and a final flam: lR L R L lR. The accent is on the second note, which makes it feel off balance at first.

Sticking

lR L R L lR

Capital letters are main notes. Small letters are grace notes played just before the main note.

How to practice it

  1. Play the main notes alone first, without grace notes.
  2. Add the grace notes, keeping them low and quiet, about an inch off the head.
  3. Speed up only when every flam sounds like one thick note, not two.
  4. Accent the second note, not the flams. Getting that displaced accent clean is the whole point.

Where you will use it

Drummers use the flamacue to practice accent control and for rudimental snare solos.
