Flam Paradiddle

The flam paradiddle, sometimes called a flamadiddle, is a single paradiddle with a flam on the first note.

Capital letters are main notes. Small letters are grace notes played just before the main note.

How to practice it

  1. Play the main notes alone first, without grace notes.
  2. Add the grace notes, keeping them low and quiet, about an inch off the head.
  3. Speed up only when every flam sounds like one thick note, not two.
  4. Practice a clean paradiddle first, then add the grace note without changing the rhythm.

Where you will use it

It adds weight to paradiddle grooves and fills, and shows up in drum corps snare parts.
