Drag paradiddle #1 is an accented note followed by a paradiddle with a drag on its first note: R llR L R R. It is written here in 3/4 so each group fits cleanly.
Sticking
R llR L R R L rrL R L L
Capital letters are main notes. Small letters are grace notes played just before the main note.
How to practice it
Play the main notes alone first, without the drags.
Add the drag as a soft, close double stroke from the other hand.
Speed up only when the drags stay quiet and the accents stay clear.
Accent both the first note and the dragged note. The rest of the paradiddle stays soft.
Where you will use it
It is a classic rudimental pattern and makes a punchy snare figure.
