RUDIMENT #37 OF 40 · DRAG RUDIMENTS

Drag Paradiddle #2

Drag paradiddle #2 is an accented note, two drags, then a paradiddle: R llR llR L R R. It adds one more drag than #1.

Sticking

R llR llR L R R L rrL rrL R L L

Capital letters are main notes. Small letters are grace notes played just before the main note.

How to practice it

  1. Play the main notes alone first, without the drags.
  2. Add the drag as a soft, close double stroke from the other hand.
  3. Speed up only when the drags stay quiet and the accents stay clear.
  4. Keep both drags light and the same. The accents are on the first note and the first drag.

Where you will use it

A rudimental snare staple that builds control of repeated drags.
