RUDIMENT #12 OF 40 · ROLL RUDIMENTS
Eleven Stroke Roll
The eleven stroke roll is five double strokes that release into an accented single note. It runs a little past the beat before releasing.

R R L L R R L L R R L
Capital letters are main notes. Small letters are grace notes played just before the main note.
How to practice it
- Play it at a slow tempo with the click, counting out loud.
- Listen for evenness: every double should have two equal notes.
- Raise the tempo 5 BPM at a time. When it gets messy, drop back 10.
- Count the fifth double carefully. It is the one people drop when they rush.
Where you will use it
Longer rolls like this appear in rudimental solos and as snare fills that lead into a downbeat.
