RUDIMENT #33 OF 40 · DRAG RUDIMENTS

Double Drag Tap

The double drag tap is two drags followed by an accented tap: llR llR L, then the same starting with the left.

Sticking

llR llR L rrL rrL R

Capital letters are main notes. Small letters are grace notes played just before the main note.

How to practice it

  1. Play the main notes alone first, without the drags.
  2. Add the drag as a soft, close double stroke from the other hand.
  3. Speed up only when the drags stay quiet and the accents stay clear.
  4. The two drags are on the same hand. Keep them identical, then snap the accent on the other hand.

Where you will use it

Good for building control of repeated drags on one hand, common in rudimental solos.
