Part 4 · Rock Grooves · Chapter 50

Riding the Ride Cymbal

Moving your right hand from the hi-hat to the ride cymbal is an easy way to lift a song, often in the chorus. Play the ride about halfway between the bell and the edge.

Keep time on the hi-hat pedal on 2 and 4 while riding.

EXAMPLE 50.3Crash into the ride
TEMPO

Start the section with a crash on 1.

Match the volumeTIP

The ride is louder than a closed hi-hat. Play it more softly so the snare and bass drum still come through.
