The two-step is the basic country groove: bass drum on 1 and 3, snare (often a cross-stick) on 2 and 4. It sounds like “boom-chick, boom-chick”.
In country, the bass guitar usually plays on 1 and 3 with your bass drum. Listen for it and play exactly with it.
